This Easy Halloween Pizza with Mozzarella Ghosts is a fun, quick, and delicious themed dinner perfect for Halloween. Made with simple ingredients and a clever cookie-cutter trick, it features adorable mozzarella ghosts on a crispy, cheesy pizza that both kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound store-bought pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella block
  • Small ghost-shaped cookie cutter
  • Black olives, sliced (for eyes)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a baking sheet or pizza pan inside while it heats.
  2. Take the pizza dough out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  3. While the dough rests, make the mozzarella ghosts: slice the fresh mozzarella block into 1/4-inch thick slices. Press the ghost cookie cutter firmly into each slice and gently push the ghost out. You should get about 8 to 10 ghosts.
  4. Prepare the ghost faces: slice black olives into thin rounds. Use the tip of a sharp knife to cut two small circles from each olive slice for the eyes. Set aside.
  5. Stretch the dough: dust your work surface with a little flour. Press the dough into a 12-inch circle using your fingers or a rolling pin.
  6. Transfer the dough to a piece of parchment paper. Carefully slide the parchment onto the preheated baking sheet.
  7. Spread the pizza sauce: use the back of a spoon to spread 1/2 cup of sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border for the crust.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella: distribute 2 cups of shredded mozzarella over the sauce in a single layer.
  9. Arrange the mozzarella ghosts: place the cheese ghosts evenly around the pizza, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Press them gently into the shredded cheese.
  10. Add the olive eyes: gently press two olive circles onto each ghost for eyes.
  11. Brush the crust with olive oil: use a pastry brush to coat the exposed edges of the dough with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sprinkle with garlic powder if desired.
  12. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. Keep an eye on the ghosts—they should be slightly melted around the edges but still recognizable.
  13. Let the pizza rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve immediately.

Notes

Keep the mozzarella cold until ready to use for cleaner cuts. Do not overwork the dough. Watch the oven closely and rotate the pizza halfway through baking if needed. Do not skip the parchment paper to prevent sticking.
