A crowd-pleasing buffalo chicken dip with a stunning spiderweb swirl that creates pockets of concentrated buffalo flavor in every scoop. Perfect for game day, this quick and easy appetizer comes together in under 30 minutes with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1 cup buffalo wing sauce
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup buffalo wing sauce (for swirl)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for swirl)
  • Tortilla chips (for serving)
  • Celery sticks and carrot sticks (for serving)
  • Optional garnishes: chopped green onions, crumbled blue cheese, or a drizzle of ranch dressing

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Soften cream cheese: take out of fridge 30 minutes before starting or microwave in 10-second bursts until just softened.
  3. Shred chicken: use rotisserie chicken, canned chicken (drained), or boil fresh chicken breasts for 12-15 minutes until cooked through, then shred.
  4. Mix the base: in a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded chicken, 1 cup buffalo wing sauce, ranch seasoning, 1/2 cup cheddar, and 1/4 cup mozzarella. Mix until evenly distributed (about 2 minutes with hand mixer).
  5. Transfer mixture to a 9×9-inch baking dish or 10-inch cast iron skillet and smooth the top.
  6. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup cheddar and 1/4 cup mozzarella evenly over the top.
  7. Prepare spiderweb swirl: in a small bowl, mix reserved 1/4 cup buffalo wing sauce with 2 tablespoons melted butter.
  8. Drizzle the buffalo-butter mixture in a spiral pattern over the cheese, starting from the center and working outward.
  9. Drag web lines: using a toothpick or skewer, start from the center and drag outward toward the edge in straight lines, repeating every inch around the spiral.
  10. Bake for 20-22 minutes until bubbly around the edges and cheese is melted and lightly golden.
  11. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish if desired and serve warm with tortilla chips, celery sticks, and carrot sticks.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese and chicken. The spiderweb pattern is created by drizzling a buffalo-butter mixture in a spiral and dragging lines with a toothpick. Assemble dip (without swirl) up to 24 hours ahead; add swirl just before baking. Leftovers keep in fridge for up to 4 days. Freeze unbaked dip (without swirl) for up to 3 months.
