This homemade ranch Chex mix with fresh herbs brings that classic party snack back to life—no artificial powders or mystery ingredients. It’s crunchy, savory, and just tangy enough to keep you coming back for more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex cereal (or use more Rice/Corn if you prefer)
  • 1 cup mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup roasted, salted peanuts (or mixed nuts)
  • 1 cup cheese crackers (like Goldfish or Cheez-Its)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons buttermilk powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl: Rice Chex, Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, mini pretzels, peanuts, and cheese crackers. Gently toss with your hands to distribute evenly.
  3. Make the homemade ranch seasoning: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, buttermilk powder, fresh dill, fresh parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, dried dill weed, dried parsley flakes, kosher salt, black pepper, and celery salt (if using).
  4. Pour the seasoning over the dry ingredients. Drizzle evenly and gently fold and toss until everything is well coated.
  5. Spread the mixture on the prepared baking sheet in a single, even layer.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes, until lightly golden and fragrant.
  7. Let it cool completely on the baking sheet (at least 30 minutes).
  8. Break up any large clumps and transfer to an airtight container or serve immediately.

Notes

Buttermilk powder is the secret to authentic ranch flavor without the liquid. Fresh herbs add brightness that dried cannot replicate. Stir every 15 minutes to ensure even toasting. Let cool completely before storing to maintain crunch. The mix gets better after a day or two as flavors meld.
