A fast and simple iced espresso recipe where brown sugar is dissolved directly into hot espresso, then poured over ice with oat milk. No special syrups needed, ready in under five minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots of espresso (about 2 ounces total)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • Pinch of salt (optional but recommended)
  • 1 cup oat milk (barista blend preferred)
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso (2 minutes). If using a moka pot, fill the bottom chamber with water just below the safety valve, add finely ground coffee to the filter basket without tamping, screw the top on, and place over medium heat until you hear a gentle gurgling sound. If using an espresso machine, pull two shots into a small cup.
  2. While the espresso is still steaming hot, spoon in the packed brown sugar and stir vigorously for 15-20 seconds until fully dissolved. Add a pinch of salt if desired and stir again.
  3. Fill a tall glass to the top with ice cubes.
  4. Pour the sweetened espresso over the ice.
  5. Pour the oat milk over the iced espresso. For a layered look, pour slowly over the back of a spoon.
  6. Stir well and taste. Adjust sweetness or milk to preference.
  7. Garnish with cinnamon or nutmeg if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use freshly brewed espresso that is still steaming hot to ensure the brown sugar dissolves completely. If your espresso isn’t hot enough, the sugar may not dissolve fully. You can prepare the sweetened espresso in advance and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days; when ready, pour over ice and add oat milk. Shake oat milk carton well before pouring to ensure creamy consistency.
